Sodalis Stone Oak residents celebrate 76 years of marriage
San Antonio seniors Wilma and Stan are celebrating 76 years of marriage this Friday on September 28. The couple, both residents at Sodalis Stone Oak, will be honored at a community event including cake and champagne in recognition of this milestone.
It all started with a photograph. While in the Navy, Wilma’s brother Ted showed pictures of his sister to Stan, who said he felt like he just had to meet her. They finally met in South Dakota and talked for hours on her porch steps. After much conversation, she told Stan he could court her. Stan proposed at the Dinosaur Park in South Dakota, and they were married in Norfolk, VA on September 28, 1942. They have four children and, due to Stan’s military service, lived in many states until they finally made Texas home in 1992. They moved to Sodalis at Stone Oak on March 1, 2018.
In honor of their anniversary, Wilma and Stan gave some advice on a long-lasting marriage. “Never go into a marriage saying if it does not work we can just get a divorce. Both parties must be fully committed. You will have troubled times, but you must work through them together. You must love and support each other. And always take time to have fun.”
Stan describes Wilma as the best wife, cook, housekeeper, mother and friend anyone could ask for.
