Dreaming Up Designs at Sodalis Senior Living: CEO Shawn Corzine and Interior Designer Shaina Corzine

Sodalis Senior Living CEO Shawn Corzine and senior living interior designer Shaina Corzine recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on December 2018. But there’s so much more for them to celebrate because they are providing many seniors another place to comfortably call home with their retirement communities, which is no easy feat.

Serving Seniors by Working and Designing Together

Shawn and Shaina say it’s been both a blessing and a curse working together. There’s a lot of fun involved, but both tend to get competitive, such as who’s in charge. Once Shaina reminds Shawn that she is always in charge, they go back to having fun again!

Working together has brought out the best possible scenario, however, when it comes to designing a senior living community.

Shawn can educate Shaina on operational needs and requirements for a senior living community, and she can take the information to develop an amazing community that combines both functionality and unique beauty.

Shaina has been working in interior design for almost 30 years, primarily working with residential customers. Her dream was to always own her own store, so eight years ago, she finally took the plunge. She now owns two stores in downtown New Braunfels called Red Stag and La Belle Vie. Both stores feature antiques that she hand-picks on her trips to France and Belgium, along with gifts, home décor and a full-service design studio.

But when the right opportunity came along, Shaina took her skills one step further to help senior residents at Sodalis.

Senior Living Interior Designer Extraordinaire in the Making

When Shawn and the team began working on Sodalis Stone Oak in San Antonio, it became clear that the hired interior designer at the time wasn’t capturing the vision of the community. Shawn asked Shaina if she could jump in and help as a favor. She wound up not only jumping in but diving headfirst into a project that would astound and comfort future Sodalis Stone Oak residents, associates and the public.

When the work was completed, Shaina created one of the most strikingly beautiful senior living communities in the area. Sodalis Stone Oak is even nominated for a national design award from Senior Housing News. Shaina’s ability to incorporate beautiful colors that mixed so well with the furnishings and fixtures created a community that is a tremendous mix of both hospitality and residential design. The residents also appreciate the mixture of antique pieces. It’s Shaina’s passion to represent ‘home,’ and that is what truly sets Sodalis Stone Oak apart from any other senior living community.

Shaina described her process of visualizing the heart of Sodalis Stone Oak. “I could list things like the importance of decorative lighting, blending colors, flooring and wall coverings, but what makes the difference to me is that the community doesn’t look like a cookie-cutter package that was purchased, but more like a journey of someone’s life. I know that leaving home and moving into a senior living community is not always an easy or joyful experience for some. So, I make it my goal for when the residents move in that they do not feel a sense of loss and sacrifice, but a sense of pride and ownership that the community is now their new home.”

Building Beautiful Senior Living Communities with Vision and Heart

To Shawn and Shaina, making a positive difference in people’s lives is why they do what they do. Both admit that they love seeing their residents find a place where they can be cared for, cherished, engaged and honored. Shaina loves the fact that she has helped create a space that they now call home.

At one visit to the Buda community, Shaina was talking with one of the new residents. Upon discovering that she was the designer, the resident said, “Oh, you sure do have beautiful furniture.”

With a big smile on her face, Shaina replied, “No, YOU have beautiful furniture, because this is your home!”

Looking to the Future with Passion for Interior Design and Senior Living Passion

Following the success with Sodalis Stone Oak, Shaina became captivated with making a difference through designing wonderful spaces for seniors to enjoy. As a result, she started Luxe Design Studio, which focuses solely on senior living design projects. One of Luxe Design Studio’s first projects is the new Sodalis Buda Assisted Living community.

Now, Shaina is in the middle of designing Sodalis Senior Living’s College Station, Deer Park and Leander communities. There are also several other projects that Sodalis has in the early stages of development. As Shaina continues to develop the Luxe Design Studio brand, she is also interested in working with other senior living developers and communities, whether it is new construction or just assisting with a ‘refresher’ on an existing community.

For the CEO and interior designer of Sodalis Senior Living, both feel blessed with rewarding careers by providing the next home for their residents. Home is where the heart is after all.
